Description Of Form His raised left hand represents that he is calling us to come to him in our search for salvation. His right hand rests palm open on his lap. He grasps his thumb with his four fingers, this position represents that the Buddha is holding on tightly to those who have come to him for protection. He is holding them tightly to himself, therefore, they will not wander away into error and danger. Purpose and Vow Over 2500 years ago, a young prince was born in north India and his name was Gautama, Siddhartha (completed goal). His family belonged to the Sakya clan and when after his years of religious quest, he became Enlightened, he then came to be called the Sage (Muni) of the Sakya clan, or Sakyamuni. This is the title of the historic Buddha Sâkyamuni who was the founder of Buddhism. Early in life Siddhartha was impressed with the suffering of this world and with the suffering that we experience because of old age, sickness, and death. He left the householder?s life and searched out religious teachers who could teach him the meaning of life. For six years, Siddhartha practiced painful austerities but with no religious result. He discovered that self torture and total self-denial were useless in the search for understanding. Instead of attempting to totally control his body, he then began to control his mind. One morning while seated under a large Bodhi Tree, he attained supreme wisdom and understanding and became an awakened being, or Buddha. After his enlightenment experience, he devoted the rest of his life to wandering from place to place, preaching to all who would listen to him. The Buddha died at age eighty. Jizo Bosatsu – Bodhisattva Storehouse of the Earth
Description Of Form He appears gentle with a shaven head, and is depicted as a sravaka disciple, that is, a monk who has left his home. In his right hand Jizô holds a shakujô stick with six rings and by shaking this he awakens us from our deluded dreams. In his left hand he holds a mani jewel, which signifies that he bestows treasures and wealth on all beings. Purpose and Vow There are very few Buddhist deities which are as popular as Jizô in Japan. Anywhere one travels in Japan, one sees his smiling face on the roadside, at crossroads, on high mountains passes or at the entrance to old graveyards, the six forms of Ksitigarbha (Jizô) are enshrined. The six forms of Jizô are each responsible for the Six Paths of Transmigration : hells, hungry ghosts, beasts, demons, human beings, and heavenly beings. They all vow to save people from sufferings and disasters. The vows and protective amulets of Ksitigarbha (Jizô) Bodhisattva lend power to those who are weak, such as children who are caught between the worlds of life and death, are in dangerous places, or are in desolate spots. In Shingon Buddhism, the Sanskrit letter A is written above the posthumous Buddhist name on the memorial tablet of an adult who has died, but when young children die, the Sanskrit letter Ka , which stands for Ksitigarbha, is written. This signifies that the powerless child is saved and is enabled to become a buddha. Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva does not get angry or give up even though he may be trampled upon and stepped on as if he were the earth. He is a Bodhisattva who has an inexhaustible store of power to nurture and save all beings with a mind of great compassion. Mantra On kakaka bisanmaei sowaka (Jpn.) Om ha-ha-ha vismaye svâhâ (Skt.) Kokuzo Bosatsu – Storehouse of Space Bodhisattva Kokuzo Bosatsu – Storehouse of Space Bodhisattva
Kokuzo Bosatsu – Storehouse of Space Bodhisattva
Description Of Form Kokûzô Bodhisattva appears with a wish-granting gem (Cintâmani or Nyoihôshu), by means of which he bestows worldly blessings on all beings. This jewel represents joy and virtue. In his right hand he carries a sharp sword which represents wisdom. Purpose and Vow Kôbô Daishi was able to encounter Esoteric Buddhism in his youth by praying to Kokûzô Bodhisattva, reciting his mantra a million times, and practicing the physical and mental discipline of the Kokûzô Gumonji method, the Kokûzô ritual that he learned from his master Gonzô. This was the reason that he practiced this method on Mt. Tairyu in Awa province and at Cape Muroto in Tosa province, and decided to leave home to become a monk. Since Kokûzô is the great wisdom of the Buddha that exists throughout the entire universe, he has the virtue of enabling those who chant his mantra, form his mudras, discipline themselves to a strict regimen, and practice this Gumonji method to obtain the wisdom of the Buddha and become enlightened. Kôbô Daishi embodied the wisdom of Kokûzô Bodhisattva into himself, and became the Bodhisattva of the Three Realms. In addition to wisdom, Kokûzô Bodhisattva grants good fortune. Mantra Nôbô akyasha kyarabaya on arikya mari bori sowaka (Jpn) Namo Âkâsagarbhaya om ârya kamari mauli svâhâ (Skt) Homage to the great Space-bearer who holds a flower and wears a garland and a jeweled crown svâhâ *All rings are handmade in the USA in Nickel FREE Sterling Silver. *All rings are made to order and generally take about 2 to 3 weeks. *All rings are also available in 10K, 14K, or 18K yellow, white or rose gold, platinum and palladium . Miroku Bosatsu – The Benevovent Bodhisattva Miroku Bosatsu – The Benevovent Bodhisattva
Miroku Bosatsu – The Benevovent Bodhisattva
Description Of Form There are many different forms or images of the Maitreya, yetmany of these forms of Maitreya hold a stupa, in his crown. This contains a sarira or real relic of the Buddha Sâkyamuni. In the Shingon Tradition, it is taught that this stupa represents Mahâvairocana Buddha. Purpose and Vow Maitreya Bodhisattva is the buddha who saves the world of the future. Sâkyamuni was born in this world 2,500 years ago and preached the teachings of salvation for all humanity. After the passage of 5,670,000,000 years into the future after the death of Sâkyamuni, Maitreya Bodhisattva will appear in the world and save all beings who have lost their way. At that time, a flower known as the Dragon Blossom will bloom, and Maitreya Bodhisattva will convene a gathering three times to preach the teachings and save the world. This is referred to as the Three Gatherings of the Dragon Blossom. Another name for Maitreya Bodhisattva is Jishi Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of compassion, and this is because he expresses his vow to save all beings in the world with a mind of compassion. Kôbô Daishi is in the Tusita Heaven, which is the pure land of Maitreya Bodhisattva, and he guarantees Maitreya’s vow, having attained salvation in this present world. It is for this reason that Kôbô Daishi is said to grant salvation during the time between the death of Sâkyamuni and the appearance of Maitreya, and is a source of great spiritual light as the Bodhisattva between these two Buddhist deities.
